Why You Keep Repeating Mistakes

This has been a difficult year for everyone I know. It's a year that has humbled us beyond measure. We felt losses or disappointments that were huge, and experienced major shifts in love, money, and our personal lives.

However, from the ashes we are going to rise! This year has shown us that change is needed and things can't continue in the same way. If you've been doing your Shadow Work, then you've recognized the things that happened as opportunities for personal development and soul growth.

Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

- Unknown

One of the most common things that people really beat themselves up about is making the same mistakes over and over again.

 Why couldn't I see it?

Why didn't I see the signs?

Why did I ignore them?

Why does this keep happening?

How do I fix it?

So, why do we keep making the same mistakes? Here are a few reasons:

 1) There's a portion of your brain that wants to keep you doing the same routine.....because it's safe.

The Reptilian (Survival) Brain likes routine. Why? Because it's comfortable, it can control the situation, and therefore keep you safe. This brain doesn't care if you're happy in the situation, or if it's even what you want. Its only concern is your survival, and making sure you have the basics needed to survive. This brain will often cause a self-sabotaging response to keep you in an awful situation just to maintain control.

 2) Hope

It's simple. We keep doing the same things over and over because we want things to turn out differently. We keep hoping that our latest attempt will be the one that FINALLY works. Hope is a wonderful thing. However, it's largely a concept based in our Emotional Brain. It's representative of our desire, and not logic. Our desire is so strong that it can cause a response to override the Logical Brain....especially when it teams up with the Reptilian Brain to keep us safe.

 3) You're not able to look at yourself objectively.

Remember, our old friend Shadow Work? Well, it requires you to analyze a situation, the responses of everyone involved, and look for the lesson to be learned. It requires you to dig DEEP for the answers. Shadow work engages all 3 sections of your brain, Survival, Emotional, and Logic to find the answers. If you're someone who runs away from your emotions, then you're constantly avoiding the lessons to be learned. So what happens? The lesson must be given to you again....and again...and again until you finally do the work. Running away only prolongs the process and the pain.

If you need help unraveling the mystery of your unconscious and subconscious brains, then Neuro-Emotional Technique (N.E.T.) is extremely powerful. Shadow work often isn't logical, and having a guide through those murky waters makes the process go much faster than attempting to figure things out on your own.
