Do You Think You're Having A Midlife Crisis?

Ready for some truth bombs? I'm in my mid-forties. Yup. "Middle Aged".

 Disclaimer: I'm not a huge fan of that term....because it sounds old! I DEFINITELY don't feel old!

 I recently read an article about the new Midlife Crisis that's affecting Gen-X'ers and late Baby Boomers. It was a long and depressing article that talked about the differences between a male and female Midlife Crisis. 

 For males, the classic stereotype is a hot new sportscar, and leaving their long-term relationship for a younger woman. We hear about how they do adrenaline inducing activities, relive their glory days, and get the little blue pill to keep up with their hot new girlfriend. 

 For women? The stereotype is a totally different story. They're left picking up the pieces, still raising kids, maybe returning to the workforce, paying student loans, trying to save for retirement, worrying about how to finance their kid's college, and given a prescription for anti-depressants. They're tired, fed up, and unhappy. 

 What a crazy difference, right?!

 Instead of a "Midlife Crisis", I'm going to say MIDLIFE MINDSHIFT. It's a time where you get to redefine who you are, who you want to be, and what you want to do with your life. This may seem like a crisis, but if you flip that thinking, then you're actually in an extremely powerful place in your life! You get to be the ultimate author of the next chapter. You get to throw away all the conditioning that's shaped your life up to this point. 

 I want you to repeat after me:


It's normal to feel scared when you're at a crossroads in your life. Your Survival Brain will be screaming at you because you're about to enter unknown territory and it can make you feel unsafe. This is why switching your mindset is so important. You're not a victim of circumstance! You're a badass creator of something brilliant!

 Spend some time really thinking about what you want. Shake off the need to feel like you have to please people, get permission, or conform to any standards of society. Newsflash: YOU DON'T! No one gets to tell you what to do, or how to do it except for you!
