Speaker: [00:00:00] Welcome to the Bite-Sized Brilliance podcast. I'm your host, Dr. April Darley, and I want you to ponder this for a moment. Do you think that you are accidentally attacking yourself? Weird, right? As you know, I come from a physician background. I'm a retired physician, and if you think about autoimmune diseases.
Sometimes that's what they're like, is the body no longer recognizes self in some way. So it's self attacking self. So if we take this out of the realm of the physical and put it in the mental emotional landscape, you could still have these parts of you that are attacking other parts. If we look at you holistically, mind, body, spirit, everything is interconnected.
Are there pieces of you that are attacking other pieces of you and creating this inner struggle, inner conflict, inner battle, [00:01:00] because they're viewing these other pieces of you as adversaries or enemies? Kind of interesting right? Now, you mostly will see that with the mind and the body as that connection because the thoughts you think can create an entire nervous system response that can put you in panic, anxiety, depression.
They can burn through your hormones, your neurotransmitters and create this imbalance now between mind and body. And you're hearing a lot probably about nervous system healing techniques if you're on social media at all. There are so many people jumping on the nervous system train and they have many different viewpoints on how to deal that.
Some of them are bottom up practitioners where they teach calming the body down. Some of them, like myself, are top down practitioners where we're teaching you control the mind and the [00:02:00] body will follow, and no approach is wrong. They're both right. You just choose an entry point. What is the right level for you and whatever it is that you're trying to work through.
I'm a big believer in that it all works. You just have to have awareness and discernment of whether it's going to be the thing that you need so that it can work for you and are you putting in the work to make it work for you. Because these are very important, necessary components to overall health. And what I teach my clients is to recognize that you are a holistic person, but I want you to split yourself into three parts and no, I don't mean mind, body, spirit. I specifically want you to start looking at your brain as if it were a logical piece or conscious and emotional piece or subconscious, and a survival based piece or unconscious.
Each one of those has its own viewpoint personality, and [00:03:00] goals and stories. I teach my clients in the bespoke brain system how to work within that three point system, that three brain system, so that you can reach a state of balance and harmony so that one of your pieces is not a attacking the other.
And we do this in your mind. Okay? So whatever your mental landscape is, the body will get on board with that. At least in my practice, if you are a bottom up somatic practitioner, you might have the opposite view, but the mind and body truly do work together. But if you are unable to control your mind, then you become the bottleneck to your healing.
These anxious thoughts you have are going to trigger a neurotransmitter cascade in your body, and that won't stop until you get ahold of your thoughts. Your body can send your brain data, but your brain makes the call. And this is why, as a top-down practitioner, I [00:04:00] really want to educate you on the power that you have to stop this inner battle so that you do not attack yourself.
We want to create peace, neutrality, balance between these different aspects of yourself. Because if you can harmonize your mind, then the body stops being so reactive. If you can set a new program of safety and capacity, then the body is not so reactive. The body may still send you data, but you look at that data in a completely different way that no longer triggers you or sends you into a spiral. T hat is peace.
I want that for you, and I want you to be able to shift your states of being, not just your states of mind. It all starts in this enclosed environment where you learn to stop attacking yourself, that the mind does not attack the body. The body does not attack the [00:05:00] mind, and so that you are truly working in harmony the way things are created to be.
I view it a lot like juggling. Mind, body, spirit, if you've ever seen a juggler, the juggler will start out with one ball, then it'll toss another one up, and then it does two, and then it adds the third one in. But usually it does a couple rotations of two balls before the third one goes in because you need to create the stability and this equilibrium and this balance.
As a human, we know that our lives are complex. There are so many moving parts. And it's very idealistic to say that mind, body, and Spirit could be in ultimate harmony all the time. But the truth is we're human doing human things . Usually two out of three gets a little bit more attention and whatever that third one is, is often where you see problems or symptoms [00:06:00] show up.
So what I'm gonna ask you to do right now is to think about mind, body, spirit and to rank them in order of 1, 2, 3. Not your idealistic order, but you as a person where you are putting most attention and effort right now as a default. Mind, body, spirit. Go ahead and rank 'em one, two, and three. So whatever you said as number one, it's probably tied into your value system in some way.
It's important enough to you that you constantly seek out sources of fulfillment and satisfaction or solutions. It's really important into your world. Whatever is number two or number three. Often those are the things that I will see rotate position the most with my clients, but number one generally stays number one.
It's two and three that rotate around, but whatever your number three is of the moment, it's probably [00:07:00] needing a little bit of help. So, if you just want to take a moment and listen and really ask that part, what do you need today? What do you need for fulfillment, peace, or balance? You might decide to change the order of two and three. Rarely, I do see people change the order of one and two. Does happen. I'm not gonna tell you it's not, but usually it's two and three that swap. So, you may want to consider swapping just to nurture the pieces of you that aren't getting enough love, time and attention.
Because three balls are kind of difficult to keep in the air, usually one of them gets dropped. Let's be realistic about that. You do have the power to switch this order around and give every single piece of you time, love, attention, and care. And that is really the message I wanna leave you with today.
That there are a lot of moving [00:08:00] parts. Some of those parts may be attacking other parts. If that is happening w e want to give peace, balance, love, and attention to the parts that maybe are feeling a little bullied or neglected. And also figure out why we prioritize the things that we do, and is that really a match for us?
Or is it just a survival based adaptive behavior? So if all of this sounds intriguing, but something you would like a little guidance on, then go to Aprildarley.com, you can book a free consultation appointment and that way I can really get a chance to get to know you and figure out what is going on with you and how the three part system that I teach my clients might be able to bring some peace to the inner battles that are going on in your mind, body and spirit.
All right my friends, until next week, have a great one. Bye-bye.
