Tarot For Everyday Guidance

You've probably heard about Tarot, but what do you really know about it?

There are a lot of misconceptions out there about Tarot cards, and many people are scared to try them. That's such a shame because they're a wonderful tool for people to connect with their own intuition and receive guidance.

Although Tarot cards are now considered to be a divination tool, they actually started as a parlor game in France and Italy during the 14th century. Wealthy families would hire painters to create a deck with 4 suits similar to the playing cards we know today. It wasn't until the late 16th century with the invention of the printing press that the cards became more widely available. By the 18th century, common meanings were being assigned to the cards and Tarot as a divination tool gained popularity. During the Victorian era, spiritualism was fashionable and parties were held that featured Tarot and seances as tools for divination and entertainment.

The most popular Tarot deck is called the Rider-Waite (or Rider-Waite-Smith to credit the illustrator, Pamela Smith) and was originally published in 1909. This deck set the standard for the symbolic imagery other decks still follow today.

The Tarot consists of 2 parts that work together: The Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana consists of 22 cards numbering from 0-21 and deals with major changes or life events. The Minor Arcana consists of 56 cards split into 4 suits dealing with day to day events. Much like playing cards, you also have a King, Queen, Page (similar to a Jack), and Aces plus cards numbering 2-10.

The suits in Tarot with their correspondences are as follows:

*Wands: travel, creativity, action, passion, and purpose

*Cups: emotions, intuition, healing, and romance

*Swords: thoughts, ideas, challenges, decisions, and communication

*Pentacles (or coins): materialism, money, abundance, stability, and work

Tarot cards are a wonderful tool to connect with your intuition especially if you're a visual learner or clairvoyant. While shuffling the cards, you can seek guidance to any area of your life by asking specific questions. A very simple Tarot spread involves laying out 3 cards representing your Past, Present, and Future. By examining the symbols contained in the cards, using your intuition, and studying the traditional card meanings can help guide you in your decision making and actions. It's important to note that the future is constantly changing based on our decisions as well as the actions and decisions as others. Tarot gives you a heads-up to a likely outcome, but the future is malleable. So, if your reading isn't what you'd like, then you have the ability to make changes and improve the outcome.

Some people find it difficult to read for themselves. If that's the case for you, then getting a reading from an experienced reader can be helpful especially if you're too emotional about your question to be calm and objective. Tarot cards help you tap into your inner-wisdom and intuition. Being afraid of them is like being afraid of yourself! We all have access to different tools to make our lives better, and Tarot is one of my favorites.
